Hello,

Why there is no change between PB 2019 R3 icon and PB 2022 icon?   Both are same and it becomes difficult to differentiate between these two applications when we start from windows taskbar...   Is there any plan to change the icon of PB 2022?

PB 2019 R3 ICON in taskbar

PB 2022 ICON in taskbar

PB 2017 R3 ICON in taskbar

Icons were different between PB 2017 R3 and PB 2019 R3.   This made easy to start PB from taskbar.

Actually there was no change also in PB 2021. Typically the icon has not been updated since PB 2019... Why? I don't know. I guess that nobody thought someone would complain...

Andreas.

No, this was intentional.  The product logo is important part of the product’s identity.  Many companies don’t change the logo every single release to build brand and continuity.  Here is example of Visual Studio:  https://1000logos.net/visual-studio-logo/

Armeen,

I'm not talking here about desktop shortcuts, only about shortcuts in windows taskbar.

It appears that the now standard icon is the PB Runman over a cloud.

It helps me to be consistent in the order I open multiple versions, but not everyone may have that option.

What I do is always open the production version of PB (which currently happens to be 2019 R3 LTS) first when I fire up my PC in the morning, then another app (say, Outlook) to provide some visual separation of the "production" PB from other version(s) in the taskbar, then if I am doing work in another PB version (testing PB 2022, for example) I start it up next. Of course, you can always drag/re-order the icons in the taskbar after the various PB versions are started. Being consistent doing this, I can always navigate to my "production" PB right away.

You can always change the icon of an application ( for example pb220.exe) in the properties of that file. So you can create a different icon for each version of PB.

Thanks Roy Bungert. I know one can change the ICON of his choice, from common windows icon list, in the properties. Will it be good to have a icon, from common icon list, for Powerbuilder?

PB 12.5 got best icons. 3D icons gives much better view. later PB versions gave yellow color to most of the icons. Someone playing with icons i guess :)

Thanks to all who made the suggestion, however I do know how to change the icon of an application shortcut to any of the standard Windows icons, but that's not what I want.

Ideally, we would have the same, identical, Appeon PB icon in 10 different colors to use on the desktop. We could pick the color we want for the version(s) we are using. That's it. Simple. Just including these 10 different icons in the .ICO file currently used for PB now should allow us to make that kind of change for the shortcuts.

Something like this keeps the color and gives you a visual clue that you are using 2022.

We considered this but when it is really size of shortcut in the task bar the numbers weren't visible.

Yes I had tried something like that too Armeen but also found it was too small to see. Then I went with just the last two digits of the year in the upper left corner. I like the look of Shenn's better than mine but found mine was more noticeable.

Which is why I suggested optional alternative application icons with different colors.

Text in an application icon is almost ALWAYS too small to see.
