Immediately downloaded and installed PB 2019 R3 beta.

So happy for especially:

  1. Web Browser control's new EvaluateJavaScriptSync and EvalidateJavaScriptAsync with EvaluateJavaScriptFinished event.
  2. New MS SQL DB driver
  3. SnapDevelop not just supporting .NET 3.1 but defaulting to .NET 3.1

  4. AND - even though it isn't new in this version
    IDE's Open Containing Folder

Working within regular office hours in PB 12.5.2 makes me really appreciate all the valuable improvements to the IDE.

Happy so far - eager to test it all :-) /Michael

Same here, You don't know how happy I am too with the "Open Containing Folder" (especially since that was an enhancement request I did time ago. It's nice to see Appeon listens to its users :)

Nice to see [ from the link provided by Armeen and Roadmap page ]

Almost all of the Revision Focus for R3 been completed (Roadmap page), I think.

1. Mainly the license issue, logging multiple versions of PB in the same machine.  It's sweet.
2. New 64-bit rich text editor (also 32 bit).  Though don't know with which version it matches with official TX Text Control.
3. PowerClient.  Definitely going to reduce our deployment workload.
4. Improved Postgresql support.

I'm not sure whether the following is missing in the product or I'm missing to read

1. Enhance RESTClient so it supports all DataWindow types;
2. Call VB.NET assemblies from PowerScript app;

Happy to see many improvements in every release of PB.

Hi Sivaprakash,

Good catch. We have now cancelled this feature "Enhance RESTClient so it supports all DataWindow types". The engineering team had more important tasks to work on and a tight schedule to follow. Do you have special DataWindow type that you expect to be supported by RESTClient?

Best regards, Julie

Hi Julie,

It's other way around. I thought of removing some tables and stores those contents in an JSON field on another table. That could make reporting [ Nested and Composite ] to use this feature.

Btw, Would like to know whether this feature is dropped altogether or postponed ?

Hi Sivaprakash,

Currently the team has plan to refactor the JSON implementation. I am passing your idea to them for their consideration. Thanks!

Best regards, Julie

TopWizProgramming addons:

PBSearch (the worlds most versatile tool for any PB Developer) works perfect with 2019 R3

Bootstrap has an issue - I have reported it to Roland.

The version information that it reports at runtime AND in the IDE is:

19.2

build 2556

will it be changed to 19.3 at some point?

Actually such minor version follows PB 2017 numbering. In the "shared runtime" folder I have pbcom170.dll - File Version 17.2.0.1915 - Product Version 2017 R3 Build 1915.

19.0 => PB 2019 GA

19.1 => PB 2019 R2

19.2 => PB 2019 R3

Hi Everyone;

    FYI: A new Beta version of the STD Integrated Framework is now available for download and use (experimentation) with the new PB 2019 R3 Beta. This version of the framework is the latest fork of the framework's R2 code with some new features already added that will be in the R3 framework release when PB R3 goes GA ...

FYI: http://sourceforge.net/projects/stdfndclass/files/Applications/PowerBuilder/OrderEntry/Beta/PB2019R3

The OE Demo App seems to be working very well thus far in my limited testing. Enjoy.

Regards ... Chris

Is it possible to install the beta version on a PC that is already running PB2019R2?  Or will they conflict?

Thanks everyone, I'm using R2 for production stuff for Powerbuilder and SnapDevelop so I won't install it on my machine. I'll see if I can find another machine to install it on because there are quite a few of the features that look very useful. When is the release version likely to come out?

Assuming the beta feedback is good, then it would be towards end of November 2020.

Hello,

If Powerclient could upgrade the program, how to take care of the database changes that need to go with the program upgrade ?   Any thing in the PowerClient to run SQL's ?

Interesting point.

FWIW: I've done this before for a long time by providing the DDL in SQL files. Then have the PB App execute this DDL by using an EXECUTE IMMEDIATE command. Of course, this technique would probably only be required for local DB's that run on the same deployment machine.

PowerClient as I understand is technique to keep client-located app up-to-date.

As such I don't see PowerClient as a platform to migrate databases, web APIs, or other server resources.

Other vendors provide tools to DB migrations, web API installations, container management, etc. Lots of automation offers in that market space. But very few offer anything PowerBuilder dedicated.

Yes Chris. We do something similar by matching the version information from App and DB and running the required DDL SQLs. I think it will be nice if that could be done by Powerclient.
