Hi Team,

We are planning to migrate Powerbuilder 2017 R3 code to 2022 R3 code to have the application running in Windows 11 machine but we are using windows 10 machine for migrating the application. Please let us know whether application built in Windows 10 machine with PB 2022 R3 will run as expected in Windows 11 machine or there will be any issues.

We have old PowerBuilder application build in PB 12.6 whether that will run in Windows 11 without any issues or we need to migrate to Pb2022 r3 to use in windows 11. Kindly provide your advise on this scenario.

Thanks and Regards,

Santhosh Somu

You can use Windows 10 machine to do the migration.  When you compile on Windows 10 machine it is NOT limited to only run on Windows 10 machine.  But obviously you should test the compiled app on a Windows 11 machine before you roll out to your users.

@Santhosh - You may find the following publication on Upgrading PowerBuilder Applications useful. It covers PB versions from 6.5 to present:

Hi.

The main reason you should upgrade the PB 12.6 application to PB 2022 R3 is because for PB 12.6 you won't be able to get support. While your application may run without issues, if you encounter any problem later, you will probably have to figure a solution by yourself.

Generally, I never had issues with upgrading applications created with Powerbuilder 201X to Powerbuilder 2022 (whatever version of windows: 10 or 11). But, you have to carefully read about all the major changes done in PB's 2017 R3 later releases. There are deprecated and obsolete features, and you have to be sure you are not using something that was removed (not available anymore), example: EJB Clients, JDBC...

Take a look at the following links:

Discontinued/Obsolete Features - - What's New (appeon.com)

I was going to say the same, I would certainly migrate the PB12.6 code. But pay attention to depreciated features and changes. You may have to refactor code to use newer technologies.
