Hello Everyone,

I've performed a fresh installation of the new PowerBuilder IDE (Version 2022R2, Build 2819) with all components. It is running well, but it crashes when I try to open a painter for editing an object (Function, Windows, etc.).

There is NO error message, so I have no idea to fix it…

All your resolutions and advices will be very helpful.

Thanks,

Si CHEN

Hello Chris and Miguel,

Thank you for your help.

As requested by Support team, I have uninstalled ALL PB2022R2 components, then performed the following actions:

  • Disable all firewall and security (Windows Defender) software
  • Use Administrator role to re-install PowerBuilder 2022R2 IDE
  • Keep firewall disable and run PowerBuilder as Administrator
  • Create a new workspace, with a new PB application target
  • When creating new PB objects (Windows, Functions, Menus, etc.), PowerBuilder 2022R2 IDE crashes, with no error message.

As shown on the Windows Error Event monitor (See attachment), the .NET runtimes installed and used by PB-2022R2 came across some errors before the crash of pb220.exe.

Thanks again,

Si CHEN

Hi Si;

Exactly what Windows O/S version & build are you using?

Have you tried installing PB on another machine?

Do any other developers have this issues?

Hi Miguel,

There is no problem for the source codes migration, but I can't open the Project painter for the rebuilding due to PowerBuilder IDE's crash.

Thank you, Miguel.

Instead of opening the project painter, right mouse click on the target in the library painter

Hello Chris,

Thank you for your help. Your analysis is in the good way.

I have deleted the "Default" folder with Windows Registry Editor. After restarting PowerBuilder IDE, this "Default" folder is re-created by IDE with new key words when I use some IDE tools for the first time. And I find that, as shown in the attached screen copy, I can use only 2 tools: Database and Library. PowerBuilder IDE crashes for all the others tools or painters:

  • Application
  • Datawindow
  • Function
  • Menu
  • Structure
  • Window
  • SQL

FYI: I have opened a bug ticket for this issue with N° 10885.

Thanks again, Chris

Si CHEN

Hi Si;

In that case, it sounds like it could be your current application's source code. That would be easy to check. If you can create a new Workspace + App OK, then that would confirm that your IDE is ok and then it must be your current App's source.

If the PB IDE crashes when creating a new Workspace + App, then I would try reinstalling.

Hi Si;

  It might be a corrupt IDE layouts issue... please try the following...

  1. Close the PB IDE
  2. Run RegEdit utility
  3. Navigate to ... HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Sybase\Powerbuilder\22.0\Layout\Default
  4. Delete the entire Default folder entry
  5. Restart PB IDE and try opening the affected painter again.

HTH

Hi,

Have you done a "Full Rebuild"? Right mouse click on the target file and there you'll see the option.

regards.
