I am unable to get the PB IDE to open.

This is failing on both 2019 R3 and 2021 and it just started today.

I installed some software, Iris for blue light, plus another backup software, not sure if they replace something, but even after uninstalling them I am unable to get the IDE to open.

I am stuck, any help would be appreciated.

I pulled updates for both 2019 R3 and 2021 but that did not fix the issue.

I also checked to see if the screen was just not showing up on desktop and removed the Window setting from the pb.ini file but still no use.

Noting is running in he task manager.

How can id determine what is causing it to fail to load ?

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

sfc /scannow

These fixed the issues with corruption and PB loads just fine now.

Maybe your IDE is trying to open some datawindow or window or workspace when it's opening and crashes.

Usually I fix that kind of things by restoring a backup of my pb.ini file or you could delete some registry settings which I can't seem to remember.

Try this:

- edit the pb.ini in "C:\Users\<your username>\AppData\Local\Appeon\PowerBuilder 19.0 (or whichever version of pb you are using)

- set the value of ReopenWorkspace=1 to ReopenWorkspace=0

- set LastWorkspace=..... to be empty: LastWorkspace=

- under [Application] set these to values to blank:

AppName=
Applib=

- save and try to open powerbuilder again.

hope it helps

On which windows version are you running the IDE?

Thanks again Miguel. Windows 10. I am seeing Event ID 1000 Application Errors for PB190.exe. Doing some suggested actions to ensure the o/s, .net etc are not corrupted. Thanks again. Will post here if I am successful.

Maybe I'm being too optimistic. I just now realized that it's happening for both pb 2019 and 2021 ... that's a bit weird.

Hi Lloyd,

I suggest you uninstall and reinstall PB IDE then try again.
If it still doesn’t work and you are using an online license, I suggest you log your license out from the link below then try opening PB IDE again.

Ken

Thanks Ken. That did not help. I am getting Event ID 1000 Application Errors on the PB190.exe and DLL files. So checking using sfc /scannow and DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth to see if things got corrupted by another installation.
