Resolved ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error

Hi Guys,

We just acquired Infomaker 2021 and after installation I'm seeing "ORA-12560: TNS: protocol adapter error". 

Our environment is running 64 bits Microsoft Office and our ODBC database runs both 32 and 64 bits. Not sure if this is causing the issue or not.

Any ideas or suggestions on how to fix the error?

Hi Paul;

  1. You are trying to us the Oracle 10g DB client driver. If you are using any version of Oracle higher than 10 - that is the wrong DB driver.
  2. InfoMaker is 32bit application - so you must have the Oracle Client 32bit DB Drivers installed (OCI.dll)
  3. If the above is OK - then the most likely cause of this error is the wrong TNS file set-up information. You would need to check this out with your DBA Team in the TNSNAMES.ora file that IM would attempt to read in order to connect you your Oracle DBMS.
  4. I would suggest verifying your Oracle DBMS environment connectivity first by using the TNSPING utility from Oracle.
