Resolved New Database Connection using API Key

We are in the process of migrating from an on-premises database server, to cloud-based. I believe it is MS Azure. I was given the following information to connect Infomaker 2021 to the cloud-based database. I am assuming it will be an ODBC connection, but I am not sure where to plug-in the information in the database painter. Any words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated.

first try to connect with sql server management studio so you can easily see if you have the correct info.

the setup is exactly like connecting to a local database server: you need the server name and the database name

the servername will be something like:  youservername.database.windows.net

 

you will also need to make sure whoever set up the azure database that they opened the azure firewall to your ip address

I do have more info. the API provider uses Swagger documentation.

azure has a portal. In that portal they have the database setup/details information. On the Overview page, there is a CONNECTION STRINGS link which provides you the exact connection string for ODBC. It also provides ADO.net and others, but the ODBC string is what you want. You click the 'show database connection strings' link and you can get the odbc driver information.



If you don't have access to that portal, you should ask the person responsible for it. They also will need to open up the azure firewall for your IP address, or provide a vpn.

No dice. Does Appeon provide support that will assist in connections? I know a little, but not a lot. Thanks in advance!

you also seem a little unsure about what you are connecting to. I'd find that out first, then google it.

Thanks for the replies. Armeen, I purchased a Premium Support ticket. Chris Pollach was helping me out. I did reach out to the DBMS provider and asked for direct access. They told me in February that I could use InfoMaker with Neos. However, they are not being forthcoming in providing the right information to get access to the data. They really don't want us to use InfoMaker. They want firms to rely on their platform. I just don't see how they could withhold providing us direct access to the data.

Hi Jason, Before opening a premium support ticket, you should check with DBMS provider to provide you connection parameters for ODBC or SQL Server native client. InfoMaker doesn't support REST API method to connecting to the database. Our team is happy to help with troubleshooting config mistakes, but we won't be able to tell you information that your DBMS provider won't tell you.

Hi Jason, InfoMaker cannot connect using REST API method.  The information you are providing seems like it is REST API method.  You should talk to appropriate person in your organization to provide the parameters necessary to connect via ODBC or SQL Server native client.
