SQL Preview in PB 2022 R3

Does anyone know if this is still supported? Thank you.

Yes, in PowerBuilder client/server projects it is supported.  PowerServer doesn't support it yet, but planned for PowerServer 2025.  Beta should be available Q4 this year.

So if I have a PowerBuilder 2022 2 tier application that relies heavily on the SQL Preview event to control the updates on a datawindow what is the best strategy for re-writing this for deployment to PowerServer?

Is the sqlpreview event just not called when deployed to PowerServer?

Hi David;

The SQLPreview event is support but, only in a very *limited* fashion (PreviewSelect type only) until PB/PS 2025.

FYI: https://docs.appeon.com/ps2022r3/SQLPreview.html

Hi David,

We recently released PowerServer 2025 Beta (Build 3398). PowerServer now fully supports the Datawindow SQLPreview event. We invite you to test this enhancement and provide your valuable feedback. For instructions on how to use it, please refer to the "Support SQLPreview event" section in the built-in PowerServer new features documentation.

Below is the download link for the PowerBuilder 2025 installer.

PowerBuilder:

Note:
We recommend using a virtual machine for testing to avoid any interference with your development environment.

Thanks for your continued support!

Regards,
David
