Why did I receive an EOL notification email (screenshot attached) regarding PowerBuilder 2021?  The Product Availability Matrix indicates that 2021 won't reach EOL until 2024.09.04.

Thank,

Seth

Hi.

That's because PB 2021 is EOMM. This means that you cannot get support for free. You can of course get paid support, but this doesn't mean that appeon will provide a fix. This is what you could expect when a product reaches EOMM and you ask paid support:

When a version reaches the EOMM date, it will, however, no longer be generally supported by engineering.  Specifically, Appeon will no longer provide any MRs for any software defects of the applicable software version, and EBFs may be provided under limited circumstances to customers that have paid applicable Premium Support fees.

This means that even in that scenario, solutions provided may be workarounds.

Of course you are right, the mail you received should state EOMM and not EOL. But as I understand it, EOMM is a special EOL state, where you can still get paid support, but should not expect fixes but help to solve a problem with workarounds, if possible.

Andreas.

Thank you for the quick response. It would be helpful if these notifications were corrected, as customers who use the application my company provides are instructed to install PowerBuilder, so they would be receiving these notifications as well. My company is aware of the Appeon support timelines and are planning our releases accordingly, but even the mention of "end of life" can cause a bit of panic from some of our customers. In the meantime, we'll inform our customers of this distinction.

Sorry for that error. The 2021 notifications should have been separated and used our EOMM notification template instead.

There was a 2019-R3 notice yesterday that says EOMM soon despite the list of dates saying no earlier than 2026.01.22 for EOMM.
