This is a great question!

IMHO, there is no substitute for "getting your hands dirty"... Consider: If a person wants to become a proficient surgeon, they must do much, much more than simply watch a video, take an online class or read a book - they must also invest time, effort, and practice by doing. While I am NOT saying that learning PowerBuilder is equivalent to learning to become a surgeon, I suggest the same multi-faceted approach can be valuable. Here are several avenues for you to consider:

Online: In addition to Appeon-U for step-by-step introductory instruction, there exist PB web sites with tips & techniques, such as:

Dig into example PB app's and PB frameworks... Don't just run them, figure out how and why they do what they do:

Books: There are a few older PB books around that can still be found:

  • The Definitive DataWindow (ISBN: 0-201-70224-X). There are currently three copies available on e-bay.
  • PowerBuilder 9: Advanced Client/Server Development (ISBN: 0-672-32500-4). Three copies now on e-bay.
  • PowerBuilder Foundation Class Library Professional Reference (ISBN: 0-07-913267-7). Also available on e-bay.

You already are using the Appeon Community Q&A forum. Ask questions! We will not write your code for you, but we'll do our best to answer specific questions related to Appeon products.

Good luck and best regards, John
