Dear Experts,

We have our Powerbuilder Application running in our client places and it is in PowerBuilder 2017 R3.

It is in Client Server (2 Tier) architecture.

Currently our app can be deployed as thick client and also as thin client (published in Citrix)

Now one of the customer is asking us to let us know whether our application can be deployed in Windows Virtual Desktop.

Have anyone had experience of deploying your client server PB application in Windows Virtual Desktop?  If yes, can you please let me know whether we have to make any code changes to support this?

Will the application behaviour be same as when it is deployed in Citrix Server?

Your inputs will be very helpful.

Hi Ganesan, PB apps can be deployed like any other win32/win64 apps in virtual Windows Virtual Desktop. All-in-all your PB app is just a Windows app consisting of many files (your app files and PB runtime). There are several environment requirements you need to setup.

A word of caution: Windows VD is based on Azure and Azure AD .-It has lots of features and it is complex. Experience with Azure, Azure AD, and virtualization will be greatly beneficial.

Should be same as Citrix because underlying technology is essentially the same. Can’t you just do a quick test?

Only one thing that I can attribute here:

Beware of doing things like animations on opening or closing windows. It's very slow on a Citrix connection, thought it might have improved over the last 5 years.
