Hello,

I would like to further discuss CloudAppLauncher, because my issue is same as this but haven't found the solution.

I'm running PowerServer instead of PowerClient, but that makes no difference since the issue is when starting the app frontend.

Production env is CITRIX, but have also reproduced on a local PC:

1) first of all, login as administrator, openWeb browser, type app URL, download Launcher setup and install Launcher service (deployed with Default_Both_WithServiceMulti profile). All ok, the app starts.

2) then logout administrator and login as guest user. Task Manager shows CloudAppService from 1) still running, open web browser, type app URL but CloudAppLauncher is downloaded again, see below. I'd expect instead the app to be downloaded and started. Guest user won't have right to perform installation, and that's the point of Default_Both_WithServiceMulti profile.

How to have local users (or CITRIX users) to run an app after that Administrator installs Launcher service the first time?

Best,

.m

Hello,

typically it is not possible to install an app in a Citrix session. The user has no permission to do this. Applications need to be installed by an admin.

Hi Marco, Have you tested as ZhaoKai outlined... first install by admin and then let each user use URL to start the app and download the launcher themselves? We have other customers using Citrix and we haven't run into the issue you said.

Hi Armeen,

yes we tested what ZhaoKai said, what was a bit of a surprise was launcher to be installed by each end-user (which required extra group policy) in addition to launcher service installed on CITRIX server by the administrator.

This I understand cannot be avoided as it is part of the design model, isn't it?.

Btw, customer rejected PS 2020 on CITRIX because the multibrowser plugin was killing the CPU. With PS 2021 launcher service CPU consumption is definitely better, a bit greedy but acceptable. Would be interesting to know if Appeon benchmarked resource consumptions with #users becoming higher and higher.

Best,

Hi Marco, For now it is best to assume this requirement won't change and try to get the extra group policy. If really we see many customers have issues to add this extra group policy we may consider what can be done. Just FYI, in PowerServer 2022 we are already making big enhancements to the Cloud App Launcher, but possibly you still need the extra group policy. We will know for sure when PowerServer 2022 is released and you can test to verify in your environment.

Hi Marco,

The launcher will need to be installed for EACH user, and only the first installation requires the admin permission to install and start the service. If the current user who is installing the launcher on this server for the first time has no admin permission, it will pop up a window to require the admin user name and password. Then other users also need to install the launcher but they do not require admin permission, all users will just use the service started by the first install.

Regards,
ZhaoKai
