Resolved Themes and titlebars

Hi.

 

We have successfully migrated our application to PB2019 and have also implemented the option to change theme.

But why is the titlebar on the windows left unaltered?

Here is our application using the "Flat Design Dark" theme and Microsoft File Explorer on top using Windows 10 "Dark mode":

Some of the design issues on the controls is our problem (transparency and such), but the titlebar, menubar and menus should follow the theme in my opinion.

Now it's a mix of themes and not.

Windows Explorer doesn't use a real window titlebar, everything at the top of the window is custom drawn and just looks like a titlebar.

Chrome and MS Office apps do the same.

In PB you can turn off the titlebar and make your own replacement. It requires a Win API function to give it drag capability but I don't remember which one.

I think we have enhanced the window title aspect of UI themes in the upcoming 2019 R2 release, but please give few days for me to confirm with our product manager.

We have also added ribbon control, which can be controlled through the UI themes, and you can now have a different UI theme applying to a particular control or window that you want to handle differently than rest of the app.

I really recommend to replace the antiquated menu and toolbar with the ribbon.  Even if you could apply themes to that, those metaphors are no longer what many app users prefer.

The ribbon control will be available in R2, in Q1 2020?



Will the menu be more modern if I choose it to be 'comtemporarytoolbar'?

Yes, ribbon control will be available in R2. The target date at this point is end of March 2020, but it depends how the beta testing goes. There are tons of features in R2... so much this could be a major release.



Any of the traditional PB settings will overwrite the UI themes. I have to double-check if in R2 the UI themes will apply to the old menu and toolbar, if it does then setting the style contemporary would overwrite. Anyway, you can try contemporary now and see if you like it better, but I really think you should move to the ribbon bar.

In R2 the UI themes will apply to the old menu, windows titlebar, border and scrollbar.

Hi Bjarne;

  The "Theme" feature does not apply to either menu items or menu toolbars at this time.

Hi Bjarne;

   As Julie has now stated ... the menus and toolbars in PB2019R2 will now follow suite with the current theme. Here is a "sneak peak" from my testing today of my STD Framework "OrderEntry" test App under R2 ...
