Does anybody know whether the LocalDB version of SQL Server Express works with PB? We're trying to decide on a good free DB to switch to (from Firebird SQL) for an eventual version of our apps on whatever Appeon Web is now called (I've forgotten). Top options seems to be SQL Server Express and MySQL.

Requirements are full SQL functionality (including stored procedures and external functions/procedures coded in C), rock-solid, zero user maintenance, and as small as possible installer (since our current installer for the whole app is only a bit over 20MB).

NEVER MIND! Even the LocalDB version is 44MB, which would triple our installer size. The full SQL Server Express is 411MB. Really need something much smaller. The Firebird SQL full engine that we're using now is only about 4MB for the multi-user version, the embedded version for single-user installs even smaller.

Hi Dan; Yes, SS Express works GREAT with PB! I've been using it for over a decade in many PB based projects. Even on various Cloud platforms & with Appeon Web and/or Appeon Mobile projects as well. AFAIK: it's one of the best free DBMS's to use these days with any data intense App. Of course - as you well point out - it has a much higher footprint than many other open source DBMS. FWIW: I've used MySQL now for a few projects via ODBC that worked out well. MySQL though does have various limitations when it comes to Triggers, Stored Procedures, Stored Functions, etc features that more robust DBMS deliver much better functionality in these areas. Regards ... Chris

Chris, I think you missed the more important part of my question, which is about the even smaller SQL Server Express LocalDB version, which apparently runs in-process with your app, not as a service. I'm not clear whether or not it can be used with PB.
