Hi,

Does anyone know what this "ShareData" is for on the Data tab of a dw? Is it just an indicator to programmers that this dw shares data with another?

Not much happens when you click on it, except for toggling the check on the contextual menu ....

regards,

MiguelL

Hi Miguel.

I can tell you that for external datawindows, sharedata will share data in data tab with preview. If you uncheck it it will not be shared.

If you have a datawindow that is binded to sql or some procedure, then you can fill some data in the data tab. ShareData will switch the data displayed to those from data tab to the sql - procedure result and the opposite. That way you can test how your datawindow will react even with data that doesn't come from your database (can be useful).

Andreas.

Hey Miguel...in addition to external datawindows, ShareData is also used when you are storing data with the DataWindow and wish to see what that will look like in the Preview after you've made changes to the stored data.  Here is the link to the online help but it can also be found in the PB Help:

https://docs.appeon.com/pb2019r3/pbug/Enhancing_DataWindow_Objects.html#Storing_data_in_a_DataWindow_object_using_the_Data_view

Regards,

Mark

Hi Mark,

Thanks for that! Of course I tried finding the information in the help by searching on "sharedata", etc. But ... never would have though it could be found by searching on "Storing data in a DataWindow object using the Data view".

Cheers!
