Hello All,

it is posible to open PB2017 and PB2019 (Beta) at the same time in the same machine time

and in the future during the migration that will be needed to make the changes in both versions at the same time.

(i know there is a trick but seems not be really legal to do it)

Hi Andres,

If you only own one license, then there is no way to have both PB2017 and PB2019 Beta open at the same time.

If you have an 'Online' license assigned and you're using PowerBuilder 2017 R3, your best alternative is to enable 'Auto Log in' and 'Auto Log out'. This will allow you to jump back and forth between PowerBuilder 2017 R3 and PowerBuilder 2018 quickly and easily.

As mentioned above, to do this, you will need:

  • An online license assigned
  • PowerBuilder 2017 R3 (previous Appeon PB versions don't have this feature)
  • PowerBuilder 2019 Beta
  1. Open PowerBuilder 2017 R3 ► On the top right corner, click on your account name ► Account Management ► Check both checkboxes "Auto login at startup" and "Sign out on exit".
  2. Exit out of the program
  3. Repeat the above steps in PowerBuilder 2019 Beta.

Enabling these options will automatically sign out your session when the IDE is closed, and automatically logs in your session when an IDE is opened. This allows you to hop back and forth between IDEs without having to remember to manually log out from one of the IDEs. This is also helpful for users who use their PowerBuilder on more than one machine.

Hi Andres;

While you can have both installed on the same PC and run them separately, the online Appeon License mechanism prevents both IDE's from being open at the same time. You must logoff one before you use the other.

Note1: In my testing, the presence of PB 2019 beta will always crash the PB12.6 IDE

Note2: Offline licensing for PB2019 Beta is not supported.

HTH

Regards ... Chris

Hi Chris.

For me PB 12.6 and PB2018 Beta have no trouble running simultaneously.

I have this issue on two W10 PC's. Seems to be when both the PB2019 beta#1 and PB12.6 are declared in the O/S System Path and the PB2019 libraries are 1st.

As other said there is a limitation. It's a known issue documented in release bulletin:

License activation for multiple major versions

If multiple major versions of PowerBuilder are installed on the same machine, for example, 2017 and 2018, notice the following activation difference between the online license and the offline license.

  • For Online license

The same user account can be used to log into multiple versions on the same machine, but only one version at a time. For example, if the user account has already logged into 2017, then it has to log out from 2017 first, in order to log into 2018; and vice versa, if the user account has logged into 2018 and needs to log into 2017, then it has to log out from 2018 first. You can use the "Auto login at startup" and "Sign out on exist" to automate these process if you need to switch between different versions frequently. A user account has to log out from one version before it can log into another version. If you need to log into and work with multiple instances at the exact same time, you will need to purchase additional licenses.

  • For Offline license

This Beta release can not be activated using offline licenses.

Andreas.
