Hello all...

Trying different options for doing Builds and Deploys.  we have a large PB contingent here, with several apps and 4 or 5 teams.  In order to do Builds and Deploys consistently, and to allow cross -team support, we would like to install PB 2017 on a Windows 2012/2016 server, and so allow at least 2 users at a time to login to the server, launch the PB IDE.  when there, we will do a Get Latest, and then Full Build and then Deploy.

We tried running PB in a Citrix VM, but we can only launch it 1 user at a time.

in the Installation Guide for PB 2017, there is a phrase..."Supports Windows Server...runtime only, not development"

So... for clarity...that means the full PB 2017 IDE will not install on Windows Server?  is that correct?

if it would install (maybe just not supported), would we be able to launch 2 PB sessions using 2 different LIC's?

Any thoughts on this?

Any alternatives that work?  The goal is to be able to run 2 PB sessions in a single "machine" environment.

We use multiple PBRs, so the command line option isn't going to work for us.

Hi Erick;

      Yes, you can install multiple PB IDE's and even MR's and EBF's on the same PC / VM and flip back and forth safely if you follow a few simple rules. I gave a presentation on this at the Elevate 2018 Conference under the session title "PB IDE Tips & Tricks". You can download the presentation from the Appon Website's User Center => Conference => My Documents

Here are some more answers to your questions / observations ...

  1. Yes unfortunately, Citrix would have that restriction.
  2. Yes, PB 2017 should install under MS-Windows Server editions. However, they are not supported under those O/S's by Appeon. In other words .. You would be "on your own" if issues arise with the IDE under those O/S versions.

FWIW: Why not create W10 VM's?

I'll take a look at the presentation.

We tried a Windows VM, the "restriction" is one session at a time.  I can't login to the VM, and then another user login as well.  We were hoping for a solution where 2 users can login, run PB simultaneously (with different LIC)

For that solution to work, we would basically need 2 or more VMs, at which point Deploying on the Developers machine is likely a "cheaper" solution.  All the Devs would have to create WorkSpaces etc for all the apps, but that needs to be done on the shared environment anyway.

We're going to test the Windows Server route, and see if we run into any other issues.
