Hello,

Would like to know how Appeon is planning powerbuilder ?   To run powerbuilder desktop application, do we need dot net ?  Is Appeon proceeding that way, to make powerbuilder applications, a dot net based one ? Or is it going to restrict dot net with Service side only ?

I see a few solutions / suggestions pointing to use dot net based one.   Say, when few solutions available in dot net, will appeon ask to use the same or try to provide alternative one, that's doesn't require dot net ?  It may be for native pdf, modern graph, TX-Text Control, etc.

Simply, will dot net become a must with future powerbuilder, for desktop applications ?

Happiness Always

Hi Sivaprakash,

Please take a look at this blog article: https://community.appeon.com/index.php/blogs/recent-blogs/the-future-of-powerscript-desktop-apps

Please take a look at the roadmap page, especially the diagram and the main feature planned for PowerBuilder 2021: https://www.appeon.com/developers/roadmap

The short answer is no, the PowerScript client app is not being replaced with .NET. Moreover, we have done some significant enhancements already in PowerBuilder 2019 and more coming in 2021.

.NET is really for 3 purposes:

1. Converting existing PowerScript business logic to C# REST APIs with the PowerScript Migrator

2. Creating new C# REST APIs with DataWindow technology (.NET DataStore)

3. Creating new HTML projects with DataWindow technology (.NET DataStore today and HTML5 DataWindow in the future)

Client/Server is not dead!  But we need to rethink what is the role of the server and how we connect to it.

Regards,
Armeen

Thanks Armeen for your clarification.

Regularly following those links you have given. Still, there was a slight doubt on client-side implementation. Thanks again for clarifying that dot net is not required for PowerBuilder applications on the client-side, even in the future.
