Hi,

I am working with a client that is STILL using PB6.5. This is connecting to Sybase 15.7 using the 11.x drivers.

The user ID and password are visible using network sniffer and has been raised as an issue.

Is there a way to use password encryption while connecting to the database, without being visible over the network?

If possible in PB6.5, could someone please advise on how the connection string should be defined?

Thanks in advance.

HI Pradeep;

   Honestly, you really need to convince your client to move to PB 2017 ASAP where the latest ASE releases & features are fully supported.

  Once on a current PB release, you'll be able to easily enable password protection ...

Thanks Chris.

The upgrade to 2017 is on the cards and awaiting approval and planning.

This would be an interim solution to satisfy the security auditors.

Hi,

as far as I remember, Sybase open client needs encryption settings to be specified under %sybase_ocs%\ini\ocs.cfg.

I agree it is more tedious than ODBC/ADO where you can just set EncyptionPassword=1 in the DBparm.

HTH.

Cheers,

Marco
