Resolved PBC runtime fails

Hi.

I try to use the Powerbuilder Compiler pbc170.exe to build my exe. I use the parameters shown in the project-object at the bottom

When starting it is working some time and creates the pbd-files. But at the end there is always the message

Application 'buisy' not found in library

But definitly there is an application buisy in my library.

What's going wrong?

Hi Guys,

I use PB2019 Build 2082 and I still have some problem.

I try rename application object but it don't work.

Is there a some other solution?

Hi Pavel;

No, you must rename the App Object.

1) Open App object & perform a "SaveAs"

2) Close IDE

3) Edit the Target object file using notepad (etc) and change the default App object name being used.

4) Restart the PB IDE

5) Delete the old App object

PS: Back it all up before doing the above. ;-)

The application object name and the exe name don't have to be the same. Creating a new Project object defaults the exe to application name but that is it.

You could change the name of the application object and leave the exe name the same.

Hi Chris.

Sorry for the delay. But I was busy with other important things.

Now I had a test where I renamed our appliction from buisy to buisy_ap. And you are right. Now the exe is built. Although that's not really an option for us. Because then we would have to revise and possibly change a lot. So we have to wait for a new version of the IDE.

Thanks for the feedback and confirmation that the Application Object's names was indeed the issue for the PBC. Please open a Support Ticket on this problem so that Appeon can get this issue into Engineering's ToDo list for a proper PBC fix.

Hi Rolf;

  Just a guess  .. but, I am starting to wonder if the PBC is getting confused by the reuse of the name "buisy" for many entities - including the application object. Hopefully, a newer build of the PB IDE & thus PBC will solve the problem. If not, I wonder if renaming the application object "buisy" to a unique name like "ap_buisy" might do the trick?

"Z" is a mapped drive. But also I tried with a local drive. There was no change in behaviour.

I now tried R3. And there is no change. The application buisy is not found.

I attached a logfile, where you can see, that buisy.sra is in the buisy.pbl library.

Thank you for the PBC log file!

Is the "Z" drive a local drive or mapped to a server? If its on a server, can you try compiling your application from a local drive via the PBC?

Can I install it parallel to R2? Or are they mutually exclusive?

I presume, it is in the download center, isn't it?

No, they are mutually exclusive. Only major versions can be installed in parallel... not revisions or maintenance releases.



Yes, it is available in the download center. But I doubt this problem would be resolved by upgrading since we didn't make any bug fixes to the PBC in R3. I would look into rebuilding your workspace, app target, and PBLs. Something must be corrupted so it cannot find it.



However, when you do get a chance it is best you upgrade to R3 MR1. It has more bug fixes in general, enhanced features, and the TX Text Control rich text editor. Plus, R3 is a long-term support version. So overall it's the best version of PowerBuilder to be using to maintain an existing client/server project.
