I can't seem to find much on the advantages of the new solutions over the old workspaces. Can someone explain? Also, the 2025 beta version indicates that solutions can only be used wtih Professional or CloudPro licenses. That seems odd.

Solution will save the source code in plain text format instead of PBL and will use the new ultra-fast compiler.  Some people prefer source code stored in plain text format, especially if working with Git source control.  And pretty much everybody appreciates faster compile times.  Full builds can be as much as 10X faster and incremental builds can be as much as 100X faster.  Your mileage will vary so try it out on your own app both full and incremental builds.

Hi Armeen

Does that mean that ultimately you want all users to upgrade to Professional, will you force that at some point in the future?

OR

Will you be supporting both workspaces and solutions for the long term?

Just interested in understanding your direction and so that I can best advise my customers.

Many thanks

David

Never say never, but I just cannot imagine we do away with PBLs. So to best we can predict, we will be supporting both workspaces and solutions for the long term.

Yes we hope customers upgrade to Professional Edition but we are not forcing that. We continue to make big investments in PB and innovate the product in the hopes that customers value what we do enough to spend a couple hundred dollars more per year.
