Hi Appeon team,

 

Currently we are using the version Appeon PowerBuilder 2017 R3 Build 1880 with Oracle 12c.

Recently Our company planning to upgrade oracle 12c to Oracle 18c.

Could you please let us know, whether Oracle 18c will support for our current PowerBuilder 2017 R3 Build 1880.

Are there Oracle-specific function you need in your application?

If not, then why on Earth would you want to upgrade to 18? The licensing fee for Oracle 18 is INSANE! In comparison, Oracle 12 gives you the identical RDBMS functionality at a fraction of the cost.

I think at least for some people the driver (no pun intended) is to be on a supported version to minimize risk and not get fired if something goes wrong. After all, your data is arguably the most valuable thing about your IT systems. I think this is why Oracle is not scared in how they price things.

Fair enough. If the company can afford the prices that Oracel charges, then they are doing well. :)

Oracle did some big changes in 18 so there will be some problems if you upgrade.  Our team is working on making an MR for PowerBuilder 2017 R3 to address this if you want to stay with an LTS (long-term support) version or you could upgrade to PowerBuilder 2019 R2, which is tentatively scheduled to release March 2020.
