Are you currently getting real value from using the tool, or is it just something your people are doing because it's required?

 - If you ARE getting real value, then I'd recommend that you upgrade.

 - If you are not getting genuine value from PowerDesigner for the effort you invest, then drop it.

I used to use PowerDesigner (way back at version 9), and recall that it was fairly easy to use and was a decent way to capture knowledge. I'm a developer so I cannot speak to any of the DBA-specific functions, like generating a complete database from the model.

We dropped the use of PowerDesigner years ago, because our shop is small and it was not providing us with any real value.

   FWIW: I have personally been using Enterprise Architect for the past 5 years. AFAIK: Not only is it an amazing product ... its also way cheaper!

I think PowerDesigner is a good tool (a little expensive). The main issue for which we are not sure about buying the upgrade is the possibility that SAP in the future no longer gives continuity to the tool.

I like my visual paradigm for UML and BPMN.
