Hi everyone.

Hope someone could help me with this issue:

In AEM, I have configured a connection (Data Source) to an IBM DB2 database via ODBC and the connection test is successful. When I assign this Data Source to a transaction in my application, I choose IBM DB2 as the Database Type (the Database Type list does not offer me the ODBC option).

At runtime, when connecting to the IBM database, the system displays a message that reads “Cannot find the db2locale64.dll library” (which is surely the database client) and the connection fails. The question is, why doesn't AEM require this DLL to connect to the IBM DB but the application does?

Hi Miguel, You cannot use ODBC for IBM DB2.  The documentation explains you need to use the native driver: https://docs.appeon.com/appeon_online_help/ps2020/server_configuration_guide_for_net/supported_database_drivers.html

Please carefully take a look at the documentation link I provided you. ODBC is supported for ASE database only.

Appeon does not test the configuration of ODBC with IBM DB 2, and also we do not provide tech support for this configuration. So therefore I was pushing you not to use this. Since we haven't tested this I have no idea if it will test successfully or not, and whether you will run into problems.

Why does Powerserver support DB2 and Powerbuilder (classic) doesn't? Could we use the native Informix driver?

Hi Miguel, Problem solved: PowerServer doesn't support DB2 anymore but Informix is supported. https://docs.appeon.com/ps2021/Database_Server.html

Keep in mind that PB and PowerServer were two separated products developed by two separate companies historically so that's why not everything was in sync before.

I thought I posted what my problem was connecting. The password needed to comply with this for it to work with the IBM ODBC CLI Driver

That link says PowerServer.

Regarding PowerBuilder 2019 I take it we are not allowed to connect to a DB2 database using DB2 via ODBC is that correct ?
I want to be clear on this as ODBC is supposed to be a standard. Not just for a few.

Now in order to connect PowerBuilder 2019 to a DB2 database do I need a IBM DB2 Native drivers to do so ?
If so do you have a link where I can get those ?

Thanks

Mike

(Just to be clear, all of this won't work for PowerSERVER).

Ha... and sorry I totally overlooked the fact that the ONLY thing you want to do is a simple SELECT.

Hahah! Just ignore my comments.

Thanks mate. Yeah I can't even get the ODBC 32 Bit manager even connecting to the DB2 backend yet. Once I do that I will figure out how to use it in PowerBuilder. It keeps saying the login ID / Password are incorrect which we know they are not as we can use them using JDBC.  Maybe the IBM Client I have for ODBC doesn't support my DB2 Version I am checking that now. We would prefer the ODBC client as we only have to do a select one one table to get some data and that's it. The install appears easier for deployment than JDBC for us.

Thanks for your help Miguel.
