We're currently working to migrate a bunch of apps to PowerBuilder 2019R2 from 12.5.2.

We have resource files that reference a network drive, which references a file share mapped to each developers' machine as a drive letter. When deploying apps using PoweBuilder 2019R2, the build process throws notification popups that it cannot find the file, even though the file does exist. This issue does not exist using previous versions of PowerBuilder.

We've tried running the app as an administrator, and our developers have full access rights to the network share/drive.

After reading more about the way Windows works with UNC network paths, and some quirkiness with UAC/Elevated Mode, I verified that running the PowerBuilder IDE as an administrator (elevated) caused the issue.

This seems counter-intuitive, obviously.. you would think running as an admin would give you more access, but apparently it messes with network shares.

I discovered this recently. Admin programs can only see network drives mapped by a program run at Admin level. Regular programs can only see network drives mapped by a program run at regular level.

Hi Daniel;

  The network drive should work OK. PB does not support UNC mapped drives but network shares to a drive letter should be good to use.

  Any changes lately to your network, O/S policies or antivirus that might account for this?

Regards... Chris

Chris - thanks for the quick reply!

I'm no network expert, but a quick search of UNC seems to indicate our drives are UNC-mapped.

Because our network setup did not change, I suppose this must have changed with newer versions of PowerBuilder (2017/2019) - is that correct?

PowerBuilder does not remap any drives.

Having UNC drives is either something that has always existed and is only now an issue, or it happened recently as a result of a policy change.
