I have built a PowerServer application with PB 2022 r 3; it is fully functional as an IWA.

 After showing how it is installed to management, there is a concern that clients may object to the "installable web app" being downloaded and stored on their users' local hard drive (albeit in the "Users" folder).

 Is there a way to deploy a PowerServer app as true web app that doesn't required files to be downloaded?  Any other recommendation?

Thank you,

Mike Sinclair

Hi Mike ;

  The current PS Cloud Apps (no longer called IWA BTW - that was for the Appeon Web feature in PS 2020 - now discontinued) are dependent on the Cloud App Launcher (CAL) to be installed in the user's "AppData" folder. The CAL is the "Coordinator" for bringing down the PB runtime, actual PS App, performing updates, security checks, etc.

  If you are referring to a 100% HTML/JS based App then no, this is not how PS works. It is designed around being a "Native Cloud Application" like you would think of today of a Mobile App being downloaded & updated from either the Apple / Play stores.  HTH

Hi Chris-

Thank you for the response and the updated name for what we are building.

Just to be clear, are you saying that the download of these files should not be an issue?  Are we being too cautious?  Has this not been an issue for anyone else?

Beyond that, management is still concerned that the downloading or the execution of the program may be blocked by policy or security/antivirus software.

I have experienced this myself, when executing the app for the first time on a PC, I get a popup saying the content was blocked; there is a button to unblock it on the popup.

Will end users have the same capability?  (I am an admin on my PC, so I have special abilities they will not).

Thank you again for your time and wisdom.

Mike

Hi Mike;

It has been an issue for some where the Windows Policy, Anti-Virus, Web Server, etc settings have not been able to "Trust" the downloaded components. To fix this, customers have had to either a) provide a Manifest file and/or b) sign the App EXE in order for the O/S or related software to "trust" what is being downloaded. Note that you can do these things via settings in the PC Project. HTH

to add what chris is saying, you really should sign the app regardless. using the extended cert (rather than the regular one) will help a lot. same with the launcher.
