We are currently migrating our application database from on-premises Microsoft SQL Server to Azure SQL Managed Instance (SQL MI).
Environment:
- PowerBuilder 2022 R3
- Microsoft OLE DB Driver for SQL Server (MSOLEDBSQL)
- Azure SQL Managed Instance
- Microsoft Entra Integrated Authentication (Azure AD Integrated)
Our existing on-premises configuration is INI file:
[Database]
DBMS="MSOLEDBSQL SQL Server"
ServerName=test.te.test.net,12345
Database=Test_Dev
DBParm="TrustedConnection=1,Database='Test_Dev'"
For Azure SQL MI, SSMS connects successfully using Microsoft Entra Integrated Authentication.
We attempted to use configurations similar to the following:
[Database]
DBMS="MSOLEDBSQL SQL Server"
ServerName=<Azure SQL MI Server>,1433
Database=Test_Dev
DBParm="ConnectString='Authentication=ActiveDirectoryIntegrated;Encrypt=True;TrustServerCertificate=False;'"
However, PowerBuilder fails with:
SQLSTATE = 28000
Microsoft OLE DB Driver for SQL Server
Login failed for user 'test'.
Additional observations:
- SSMS connection works successfully using Microsoft Entra Integrated Authentication.
- ODBC DSN configured with Microsoft Entra Integrated Authentication also connects successfully from the same machine.
- The issue occurs only when connecting through PowerBuilder using the MSOLEDBSQL interface.
Could anyone please advise:
- Does PowerBuilder 2022 R3 support Authentication=ActiveDirectoryIntegrated with MSOLEDBSQL SQL Server?
- Is there a recommended INI file configuration for Azure SQL MI with Microsoft Entra Integrated Authentication?
- Are there any additional DBParm settings required?
- Has anyone successfully connected PowerBuilder 2022 R3 to Azure SQL MI using MSOLEDBSQL and Microsoft Entra Integrated Authentication?
Any guidance or working configuration examples would be greatly appreciated.
