MSSQL Server, Stored Proc, OUT params causing problems.

Environment: Powerbuilder 2021, Microsoft SQL Server 2022

 

I am working with inherited code that used to connect to a Sybase ASE server.   I am having problems with the OUT params on stored procs (see message above).   These used to work with the Sybase version.


in sql server:
integer li_internal_before, li_customer_after
...
CREATE PROCEDURE dbo.s_default_test_time_r01  
@ii_reservation_id int,
   @ic_prog_indicator char(1),
   @ii_resv_time int,
   @ic_category_abbr char(8),
   @ic_event_type char(8),
   @ic_resv_type char(3),
   @oi_internal_before smallint  OUTPUT,
   @oi_customer_after smallint  OUTPUT

 

in powerbuilder:
 DECLARE s_default_test_time PROCEDURE FOR s_default_test_time_r01  
         @ii_reservation_id = :iw_window.il_rsv_id,   
         @ic_prog_indicator = :iw_window.is_app_ind,   
         @ii_resv_time = :ll_tmp,   
         @ic_category_abbr = :ls_category,   
         @ic_event_type = :ls_event_type,   
         @ic_resv_type = :ls_resv_type,   
         @oi_internal_before = :li_internal_before out,   
         @oi_customer_after = :li_customer_after  out;
 
 
If the sqlcode is ok, then we would do a fetch into the two out params ... but it's not.   The error message from the screenshot above is produced with this line:
Messagebox('Information', SQLCA.SQLErrText)
 

afaict powerbuilder integer is a two-byte value, and mssql server smallint is a two byte value, so we shouldn't have a type mismatch.   And we clearly aren't passing a constant (the way the error message indicates).

Is this a known problem with MS SQL Server?
