Hi Chris, was wondering if there was any update on this. I am trying to use MS Word as a spellchecker using OLE but so far does not work in Appeon web...works fine in PowerBuilder client/server. Thanks for any help you can give.
Dave V.
Thanks Chris, would you happen to know of a spellchecker that does work in Appeon web?
Note: We have a constraint that spell checking must be done locally, cannot send verbiage to an offsite web site/process for spell checking.
again thanks for all your time.
Dave V.
Hi David;
Yes / No ... almost. It would need some PowerScript changes for PS Web as it's looking for the spell checker DLL in the wrong location (from what I could see in my quick test).
Regards ... Chris
Thanks Chris, based on your screen print it looked like you were able to get it to run since you got the license popup notification.
Dave V
Yes, that is what I get as well. Its because the PB code is looking for the DLL in the wrong location. I just haven't had the time yet to play with the Demo code to make it work.
Hi Chris,
I am able to run a test app in PB native (2017) and it works. When I convert/compile to appeon web I get
Please note: Jim created the app and all I did was copy it (including the dll) to my local and ran it. I did not do any Setup which is mentioned in the instructions. I just wanted to see if it would work without doing anything special. I did add the DLL to the Additional File configuration but still nothing. Any tips on how you got it to work for web, if I do need to do some sort of setup how will that effect deploying an app to the powerserver?
Sorry Chris, I should have been more specific. Which of the Wintertree products did you use. They have several flavors and not sure which one would work with both Web and PB. Thanks again for your time...Dave V.
Hi David;
Version 5.17.1
Regards ... Chris
Thanks for the response Chris, by the way what version of wintertree were you using?
Hi David;
Jim said that you guys had abandoned the use of the spellchecker for now. He was also looking into getting the latest release as well and said that he would post back here on the Community forum. So I stopped playing with the WinterTree product at that point.
Regards ... Chris
Hi Chris, I am working with Jim on the wintertree product. Just following up to see if you had success integrating it into the appeon web? If so does the product version you chose run in both PB 2017 and PowerServer?
Thanks for your time.
Dave V
Thanks Chris.
Hi Jim;
I now have the latest version from Lew at WinterTree and have deployed it for PowerServer Web. Its almost working - but, I think that I need to tweak the code a bit in the demo App. As you can see from the screen cature below, the current version is 5.17.1 ....
Regards .... Chris
Mike and Chris,
I passed along the "did you specify that dll (and related files) to be downloaded in the appeon configuration?" to our Appeon guys and maybe it is a good point. The spellchecker problem is from an Appeon build of a few months ago. They are not prepared to attempt another build right now to give me the current status of this problem. Let's put my question aside for now. If needed, I will repost in the future when I have better info. Thank you both for responding.
Jim
Mike,
The simple answer is that it does not compile in Appeon. I am not working with the Appeon piece and I am waiting for a more specific description from the guys that do.
Chris,
Our version of Wintertree is very old. The dll is dated 1999. Maybe the answer is to just buy the latest version? At their web site they list many flavors of the spellchecker and it is a bit confusing to me. A few days ago I submitted via "contact us" at their website explaining the problem and asking their advice. No response yet. If you can prod something out of them, that would be great.
Beyond that, what are other folks doing for spellcheck that works for both PB and Appeon?
Jim
what do you mean "doesn't like"?
did you specify that dll (and related files) to be downloaded in the appeon configuration?
Hi Jim;
Well strange enough ... as it turns out, the person who now owns WinterTree is an X-boss of mine (Lew Shepherdson) and a close neighbour of mine just down the road where I live. If you like, I can check with him and see if it is possible to adapt the WinterTree software for browser use.
Regards ... Chris
Sorry for the slow reply. From what I last remember, you were going to investigate other spell checking options - so I did not pursue the WinterTree issue any further. Are you now thinking of trying to get the WinterTree product working in PowerServer again?
Regards ... Chris
If things change and you want me to pursue the WinterTree option again, just let me know.
