Our team is experiencing an inconsistent performance issue when opening PowerBuilder user objects on a shared VM. The problem only affects one teammate, even though we are all using the same VM, the same credentials, and the same PowerBuilder instance.
Details:
- Environment:
- All three of us connect to the same VM using the same username and password. PowerBuilder IDE is already running on that VM under that account.
- Observed Behavior:
- When I log in to the VM (with teammate 2’s username/password) and open a user object in PowerBuilder, it loads in ~6–7 seconds.
- When teammate 1 does the same, it also loads in ~6–7 seconds.
- When teammate 2 (the affected user) logs in and opens the same object, it consistently takes about 1 minute to load.C
- Connection Methods Tested:
- Direct connection from physical workstation to the VM.
- Connecting first to another remote workstation, then to the VM.
- Using different remote connection managers (Remmina, Windows Remote Desktop, RDM, etc.).
- In all cases, teammate 2 still experiences the slowdown, while teammate 1 and I do not.
- Other Notes:
- No other applications exhibit performance issues for teammate 2 on this VM.
- The problem persists regardless of how teammate 2 connects (direct, chained through other VMs, different tools).
Has anyone encountered this type of issue before where performance in PowerBuilder differs depending on the physical workstation or network location of the person connecting to the VM, even though the VM environment and credentials are identical? Could this be tied to network latency, VPN behavior, or some other factor external to PowerBuilder/VM? Any troubleshooting guidance would be appreciated.
Thanks!
