Hi everyone,
I’m working in an environment where we have multiple PowerBuilder applications running in parallel, spread across a bunch of legacy versions: PB 6.5, 7, 8, 9, 10.5 and 12.5. As you can imagine, maintaining all this is getting harder over time, both from a technical and operational point of view.
What I’d like to do in the long run is reduce this version chaos and, if possible, consolidate everything into a single PB version, ideally PowerBuilder 2025 (or at least get much closer to it).
I know this is not a simple upgrade. There are obvious issues.
Still, I’m sure I’m not the first one dealing with this, so I’d really like to hear from people who have already done multi-version PB upgrades or consolidation projects.
I’m especially interested in:
What upgrade paths actually worked (incremental vs. big jump)
Tools you found useful (PB tools, third-party, etc.)
Common pitfalls when moving from very old versions (6.x / 7.x / 8.x)
Rough effort estimates or lessons learned
Whether it makes sense to upgrade everything to an intermediate version first before targeting PB 2025
Any shared experience, tips, or even “don’t do this” stories would be very welcome.
Thanks a lot!
Mark
