Hi Appeon and all of you,

The PowerBuilder 2025 R2 maintenance release is out, and once again there's nothing on AI. I find this genuinely concerning.

Appeon feels far behind here. Compared to modern AI-enabled development environments, PB feels like an editor from another era, and the code generation available in tools like VS Code simply outclasses anything in PB today. That gap makes it very hard for me to recommend PB to anyone — even to myself — given how conspicuous the lack of AI tooling has become.

I raised this same point almost a year ago, and nothing has changed since. Appeon's response at the time was essentially "we're aware and looking into it."

So Appeon: what is actually happening on this front, and is there a timeline? At this point it's fair to wonder whether the product roadmap is stalling here. I know AI is listed on the roadmap, but that's eight months out with no real commitment behind it.

I should say — I'm aware this message may come across as frustrated, maybe even angry. That's not misplaced passion for its own sake; it comes from genuinely caring about this product. I've built my business on PowerBuilder and I would hate to see it decline because of poor product development management. This feedback comes from wanting PB to succeed, not from wanting to tear it down.

I did complete the survey, but I'd suggest the questions about "what people want from AI" were somewhat beside the point — that's something Appeon, as the vendor, should already have had a clear point of view on long ago.
