Hello Community,
we recently migrated our PowerBuilder application from a traditional Microsoft Remote Desktop Services (RDS) environment to Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD).
Since the migration, users have reported significantly slower screen rendering and window initialization, although the application performed well under RDS.
Typical symptoms include:
Slow opening of windows
Delays when switching tabs or screens
Noticeably slower DataWindow rendering
Screen redraws appearing progressively instead of instantly
The application logic and database access do not appear to be the bottleneck. The issue seems to be related to UI rendering and screen updates.
We are currently investigating topics such as:
DataWindow rendering performance
Excessive repaint/redraw operations
Use of SetRedraw()
Nested DataWindows
AutoSize Height and computed fields
Differences between the RDS and AVD graphics/RDP stack
Has anyone experienced similar issues after moving a PowerBuilder application to Azure Virtual Desktop?
If so:
What was the root cause?
Were there specific PowerBuilder optimizations that helped?
Did you need to change DataWindow settings or application design?
Were there any AVD-specific configuration changes that improved performance?
Any recommendations, best practices, or lessons learned would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance for your help.
Klaus!
