ODBC Driver for SQL Server 18.7.1.1 and PB 2025 R2 VC++ Dll Incompatibility

For PB 2025 R2 compatibility issue with VC Runtime explained here

we found that Solution 2 is not working on windows with latest ODBC Driver for SQL Server 18.7.1.1

because that driver installer install new version of MSVCP140.dll (14.51.36247) to System32 which is newest than found PB 6464 runtime (14.50.35719.0). And ODBC Drivers requires it to be loaded in process, not older one (exception inside MSVCP140 on ODBC Login)

If You cannot install newest VCRuntime to every computer running PB runtime 6464, and are forced to use Solution 2 to support OS with older VC runtimes, ie.

"copy the following required VC++ runtime DLLs from the Runtime folder to the same directory as the application executable file."

you must distribute copy of DLL from latest version of VCRuntime with exe and distribute you application before any client install newest version of SQL ODBC Driver 18 (or another driver/component) with VC runtime files >=14.51 inside it's installer.
However, that will always be just a short-term solution.

Better methods are

  • use solution 1 
  • another method in code to always load latest VC DLL from System32 or PBRuntime folder by DLL version compare.
