Hi,

About a year ago I asked about possibility of using RESTful web services in Mobile Apps/PowerServer.

At that time Chris said that:
"The new RESTful web services in PB2017R2 are not supported in PowerServer Web/Mobile.
Support for RESTful web services is being considered for PowerServer 2018 due out later this year."

Are you planning to add this functionality in PowerServer 2019 for mobile apps?

Regards,
Marcin

Hi Marcin;

  RESTFul web service support has been available since January 2019 with the release of PowerServer 2019. The last maintenance release of PB2017R3 MR01 (build 1880) supports both PS2017 and PS2019 Web/Mobile development.

   Here are the PB2019 RESTFul main enhancements ...

  • HTTPClient object class is now available for Web & Mobile Apps.
  • JSONGenerator object class is now available for Web Apps.
  • JSONParser object class is now available for Web Apps.
  • RESTClient object class is now available for Web Apps.

     Features on the list to be supported in PS2019R2 (as per PS2019 documentation) ...

  • UI Themes
  • Compressor Object class
  • Extractor Object class
  • JSONParser - New functions and properties from PB2019
  • JSONGenerator - New functions and properties from PB2019
  • Enhanced 64bit registry commands

Note: The "PS2019 for PB" Developer version is not included in PB2017R3 but will be included with PB2019 (being  released very soon).

HTH

Regards ... Chris

do you happen to know whether the CoderObject will be added in PSR2, and if not when will it be added? The coderobject is a huge missing piece for accessing web services from web/mobile.

will the json objects be added to mobile?

Hi Mike;

FYI: Nothing specific on the CoderObject on the immediate horizon but, it is in the early planning stages for the next major PS version. Features subject to change of course at this early stage.

It would be great if non-PB apps on mobile could make REST calls to run PB web apps.

The docs for PB 2019 is still beta stage so we will be improving this so less confusing. PB-formatted JSON is what the help calls "standard format", which is used by the ExportJson(). And standard JSON (what non-PB world is expecting) is plain JSON or simple JSON, which is used by the ExportPlainJson().

C# will have a separate function rather than a boolean argument like Desktop?

The docs for PB 2019 are in beta stage, but this gives you idea what are the C# APIs provided and how to call them: https://www.appeon.com/support/documents/appeon_online_help/snapobjects/api_references/Appeon.Data.PowerBuilder/DataStore/IDataStore/IDataStore.html
