Hello,

We have PowerBuilder 2019 and PowerBuilder 2021 used in our offices.  We use 2019 to deploy apps as PowerClient apps and they work great.   We have an issue where it appears that PowerClient 2021 and PowerClient 2019 apps CANNOT run on the same computer.  We can only use one of the IDEs to deploy apps leaving the newer apps developed in 2021, not able to be deployed via powerclient because it breaks everyone elses.

We had tried to deploy a 2021 PowerClient to the same server and when a client goes and runs the app, their cloudapp updates to the 2021 version and then breaks with errors as seen below.  We have tried manually uninstalling the apps and the cloudapp but cannot get it to work anymore.  Just requires the cloudapp to install each time and never opens the app.  It even fails to recreated the app under the %appdata%$ / pbapps/application directory.

Any ideas of how to fix this?  2 machines are broken now...

Hi Jeff,

There is a difference between the encryption mechanism used for the deployed apps in 2021 GA version and 2019 R3 GA version.  So if you want to have the apps deployed from both 2021 and 2019 R3 to run at the same client, please make sure to upgrade 2019 R3 to MR #2728, and then redeploy the 2019 R3 apps using the MR.

For more information, please see https://docs.appeon.com/pb2019r3/release_bulletin_for_pb/Build-2728-MR-Improvements.html

If this does not solve the problem, please open a support ticket.

Best regards, Julie

Hi Jeff,

PowerClient can handle multiple versions for multiple projects, but to avoid the issue you described you need to the following...

1. On the Web server only have the latest version of the Cloud App Launcher (the 2021 version).  Delete all previous versions of Cloud App Launcher.  The latest version can also load apps compiled for PB 2019 R3 runtime.

2. Redeploy your 2019 R3 project with PB 2021 IDE but in System Options set the runtime version to 2019 R3.  PB 2021 IDE supports compiling your project for 2019 R3 runtime.  The PB IDE and runtime have been decoupled so that you can upgrade your PB IDE but keep using older runtime version so you don't have to deal with upgrading and retesting all your source code to benefit from fixes to the PB IDE or Cloud App Launcher.

Best regards,
Armeen
