I recently install PB2019R3 on my partners machine and the default of C:\ProgramData\Appeon\InstallFiles was incorrect for that machine. Our drives are setup so that Windows is on D: (along with all of it's associated directories). Having the installer use the PROGRAMDATA environment variable would be very helpful (so I don't need to set the drive every time) because our C: drives don't have enough free space for the installer to continue.

Hi Brad,

Are you referring to the Download Location or the Installation Location?

You can find both of these two settings on the Location tab in Appeon Installer. For the Download Location, you can change it all the time, but for the Installation Location, you can change it only when there is no component installed on the machine.

Currently, the installer cannot use the PROGRAMDATA environment variable, but it does support another drive besides the C drive, please work around this by manually changing the location setting for the time being. And actually this is a great suggestion to make our installer more intelligent, we will try to improve the installer in later releases!

And may I ask was PB 2019 R3 installed successfully after you changed the location? If there's any problem with the installation, please open a ticket for it in the Support System in the link below. Thanks!

Aubrey,

I'm talking about the Download Location. It's defaulting to C:, and as a fellow developer, the fewer issues the user has when running an installer, the better. I know I can manually change the download location (installer wouldn't continue without it), but having it prefilled correctly would smooth the installation process.

As for how the install went, PB 2019R3 runs fine, but during the install some of the DOT Net installations indicated failure (were red), but actually succeeded their install.

Hi Brad,

Thanks for the reply! Sorry for the inconvenience. We'll have it improved in later release.

I just need a little more information, please bear with me. From the DOT Net installations failure you mentioned, it looks like you are running the installer directly for installation. In this case, both the Download Location and the Installation Location are defaulting to C:/. My question is, did you change the Download Location only and leave the Installation Location as default? Do you want only the Download Location or both Download Location and Installation Location to use the system drive?

And for the DOT Net installation failure, please open a ticket for it in the Support System and provide the following there for analysis. We'll help find out what's causing it.

1. Screenshot of the installation failure.

2. Zipped files of the folders below:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Appeon\PowerBuilder Installer\log

C:\Windows\SysWOW64\AppeonInstallLog (if 64-bit OS)

C:\Windows\System32\AppeonInstallLog (if 32-bit OS)

Regards,

Aubrey
