Resolved default app launcher applications are signed by appeon what kind of cert is used (EV or standard)

The PS app launcher (default one) comes pre signed by appeon.  is it signed with a standard cert or an EV cert?  The EV cert is a better cert, especially for applications downloaded from the internet which is exactly what powerserver is.

 

I have no idea how to tell if an application was signed using EV or not.  For my generated EXEs I see (advanced tab) the CN= Key/value in the issuer field:

CN = Public Code Signing CA EV R36

has the letters EV.   but i don't know if EV here really means Extended validation, and whether that is specific to my cert provider and not how all cert providers display whether the cert is EV or standard.

 

the appeon digital signatures property for the app launcher exe does not have the letters EV anywhere.

Hi Mike,

 We are currently using a standard certificate signature. To check if a file is signed with an EV certificate, you can follow these steps:

 Right-click the signed file and select Properties.

  1. Go to the Digital Signatures tab.
  2. In the Signature List, select the certificate and click Details.
  3. Click the View Certificate button.
  4. Go to the Details tab and check the value of the Subject field.

 If the content of the Subject field is with details and includes the SERIAL NUMBER, as shown in the attached reference, it should be an EV certificate.

 This is our general understanding when using certificates. For more professional identification methods, please contact your certificate provider.

FWIW, i see a serial number on my standard cert signed application, as well as my EV signed application



It's weird that it isn't easy to tell the difference in signature types by looking at the properties.
