Hello and good day to all!

We are attempting to implement encryption in transit for our client server application.  I have searched the web and Appeon's Q&A and only found 1 discussion on setting up encryption in transit - it was for SQL Server.   We presently have Sybase ASE v16 and we need to enable encryption in-tranist functionality.   SAP doesn't give a helpful example on what Dbparm value(s) indicate the key file location for the client and how to define it in the db profile in the PB development environment.  Questions:

1)  Can this be done with Sybase 16 and PowerBuilder?

2)  Does anyone have any examples?

To this point, we have been able to configure and connect using TOAD because it has parameters to indicate encryption and where the client key file resides.  Also, the server is configured and allowing connections via TOAD.

Any input on experiences using encryption in transit with PowerBuilder IDE would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Thomas;

  The ASE encrypted sign-on is an extra purchased feature of ASE from SAP. AFAIK, the encryption is handled by a special ASE DB Client that includes the encryption connection feature. SAP Support should have all the details.

Chris,

Thanks for the response. I do have a follow up then, why did TOAD recognize and provide the attributes to set (turn on encryption and indicate the certificate file location) in its' connection dialog window and PB did not? This scenario implies the Sybase client I have installed does support encryption. Thoughts?

I have no idea what TOAD uses for the DB Client. TOAD might even use its own custom driver.
