Can PB 19 R2 client / server desktop app connect to a SQLMI database on the cloud? Is there sample code? Or do / should we upgrade to a newer version to get this capability.

Hi Ed,

Microsoft provides some documentation on how to connect on-premise apps to SQLMI (refer to the Connect from on-premises subsection): https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/azure-sql/managed-instance/connect-application-instance

The other thing you may want to consider is converting your client/server app into a cloud app using the new PowerServer 2021 option.  Then you can host your PowerBuilder app in Azure together with SQLMI.  It generally takes a few days to few weeks of work to convert.  Here is a 5-minute product tour: https://www.appeon.com/products/powerserver-tour

Best regards,
Armeen

Thanks for the reply. I looked into PowerServer and it looked like a good approach. Unfortunately, PowerServer does not support DB2 (most of our C/S PB apps connect to DB2). I will post another question on ideas for the best way to move our apps to the cloud (since not really related to this topic).

Hi Ed;

  AFAIK, Managed Instances of Azure SS are the same as " Enterprise Edition " SS. Thus, just use it's IP Address for accessing the DBMS instance vs using a DNS server name on your local network.  HTH
