Resolved ARM - windows 10 x86 emulation

has anyone been running PB applications on an windows 10 ARM tablet such as surface pro x line?

It seems that PS 2021 applications should work great on these devices, especially if they are 32bit (x64 emulation is not yet available, but is being added by microsoft ).


This looks like a compelling option to replace the android/ios mobile versions of powerserver for tablet applications.

Hi Mike,

Totally agree with you that Surface is good alternative to iPads, and I truly believe in context of business environment that tends to be standardized on Windows OS and the types of apps our customers build with PowerBuilder that Surface is superior to iOS/Android tablets.  

We only claim Surface Intel chips supported because that is what we test.  But I really think it should work.  You can verify today with PowerClient.  If that works then PowerServer 2021 will also work.

the arm tablets often include LTE connectivity, plus they run for far longer than an intel based system. So for business focused applications this should be a home run for powerserver applications running in the field.

Hi Mike;

  Both the  PB 2021 and PS 2021 applications are to be focused on the Windows Intel based CPU architecture for the Surface AFAIK at this time.

M$FT includes x32 emulator in windows 10 for arm, so all 32 bit apps *should* work including 32 bit device drivers. the application won't know that it isn't running on an intel chip.
