Hello,

We're in the middle of investigating a way to implement a ribbonbar in our main application. Of course there are third party solutions for this, but before paying a lot of money for such a solution we like to know what the plans are right now to implement this as a native PB control. The roadmap speaks of PB2019 R2, but I haven't seen a definitive decision yet it will be available in that version. Is there something concrete to communicate about this?

Thanks in advance,

Aart Onkenhout

An update to the previous post.  The Ribbon Control will be in PB 2019 R2, and here you can see a video of an internal release demonstrating the new control: https://youtu.be/Bcn6tt7H-Kk

Hi Aart,

There is almost 100% chance that Appeon will add a Ribbon Control natively to PowerBuilder since this is a very commonly requested feature and we understand that customer prefer a native solution rather than relying on third parties.

As far as timing, there is about 90% chance this would be in PB 2019 R2 rather than R3.  Our engineers have already coded majority of this feature, but since coding has not completely finished and it has not yet passed QA so I cannot say 100%.

Here is a mock-up of our work in progress...

Hi Armeen,

looks good.

What kind of tabcontrol is used under the ribboncontrol?

As far as i know there is no native tabcontrol with a "X"-Button next to the text.

Is this another improvement for R2 or is this just a mock-up tabcontrol?

Regards,

Tobi

Hi Tobias, this is just a mock-up, which I had mentioned in my answer. I haven't seen a demo yet so I don't know if it has the "X" or not. My guess is it doesn't. But in just few months I think you might be able to see the real thing. Hope you can wait.

Hello Armeen, I deploy my web app but when I run it the browser doesn't show the ribbon menu, could you share some documentation about this?

Thank you.

Web browser? If yes, then I think you mean PowerServer not PowerBuilder. RibbonBar is not supported in PowerServer yet.

If you are going to be at Elevate 2019 I will be doing a session on this new control.

Hi Armeen,

Thanks a lot for answering (and showing the mock-up, looks promising!). Will there be a chance to beta test this new control?

Regards,

Aart

Hi Armeen,

Although you answered 'No' on my question if the ribbonmenu will become available in a beta version, I see there is a beta out now. Is it possible to get the beta-version?

Aart

Please send email to product@appeon.com to see if you can get into our private beta program. When I said no beta I meant a public beta.

Thank you for your answer. I sent a message last saturday, but unfortunately I didn't get any reaction. I guess this means 'No' :-(.

I mentioned that in my question, but look at this discussion: https://community.appeon.com/index.php/qna/q-a/pb2019-r2-when. So it isn't a matter of course the ribbonbar control wil be there.

i think the text of the roadmap was updated to say specifically R2? not 100% sure when/if it was updated.

i also get that you want to hear from appeon on this.

this is what i see on the roadmap.  It says scheduled, so....

Other key features include UI themes, ribbon control*, TX TextControl, enhanced 64-bit compatibility, and file compression/decompression.

* Scheduled for PowerBuilder 2019 R2.
