Resolved Upgrade to Oracle V19C

I saw the response to Jim's question by Roland but I have build 2170 and cannot connect to the database.

 

 

Not sure what steps I need to take at this point. Thanks.

ora-28040 - you need your oracle dba to change oracle settings to allow old oracle clients to connect.  

google ora-28040 to find some of oracle changes that you may need to do.

 

old versions of PB will connect to newer versions of oracle (19c) , but not everything is supported (a few things don't work - you can search for that list to see if it applies).  My app (17R3) runs fine against 19c, but i am planning on using 19R3 for my next release.

After upgrading from Oracle 11 to V19C will current application exe's  have to be migrated to PB 2019 R2 in order to connect to the database?

I think it can connect, but you will probably have issues. We made changes to support Oracle 19c properly... it wasn't simply testing it and saying it is supported.

By the way, PB 2019 R3 is scheduled to release on Monday (January 25th). I strongly recommend to upgrade to that instead of 2019 R2 since 2019 R3 is a long-term support version and have tons of new features.

In addition to Armeen's great comments and advice ... FYI: O19C was first "officially" supported in Appeon PB2019 MR 2170. So that build and higher should work nicely with O19C.

Hi  Greg,

 

Firstly, please upgrade PB 2019 to PB 2019 R2 because PB 2019 R2 supports Oracle 19c.

 

Secondly, make sure Oracle 19c Client 32-bit is installed on your machine.

 

Finally, go to PB IDE > Database Profiles, use ‘ORA Oracle’ drive to do the verification.
