Resolved SYSAM Problem

I generated an alternate license for my new laptop using the hard drive serial number. Now I am getting this message:

Thanks for testing PowerBuilder. This testing version will expire in 6 days(s).

The expiration date appears to be 45 days after the license was generated.

How can I fix this problem? Did I make a mistake generating the license?

Hi Roland;

  Try using a MAC based license instead.

The problem is likely that by default Sysam uses the "main" network card to generate the license.  With a laptop that's an issue because you might be using a built in ethernet adapter or docking station when in the office, but the wifi adapter when on the road.  Sysam will see that the "main" network card has changed and invalidate the license.

I always use the lmutil from Sysam to get the hard drive serial number and use that to generate the license key.  So as long as I don't swap out the hard drive I'm fine.

Roland already stated he used the HD s/n and that did not work. My guess is that could be related to new SSD technology.

I generated the license file using the hard drive serial number.

When I run the install of PowerBuilder and point it to the license file, it gives me an error message. It allows me to continue and enter the license file later. Then when I run the IDE and load the license file it seems to accept it. I exit the IDE and go back in and it says I am in test mode.

It is like the installer set it up as 30 day evaluation mode and loading the license file doesn't change that.

 

I have Windows 10 Home. The C: drive is SSD and the D: drive is normal hard drive. I am installing to D:\Program Files (x86)\Sybase.

Are you remoting into the machine or working directly on it.

Directly. The 45 day license is now expired. It looks like I need to create a new license file based on the network card. I always use wireless so it shouldn't be an issue.

Just Upgrade to PB 2017 and be done with SySAM.

My apps have to be compiled to a different version of PowerBuilder than the developer is using. I have to use older versions because of that. For PBSearch I use 10 & 10.5 and WizSource 10, 10.5, 12.0, & 12.5. I suppose I could drop the 12.0 & 12.5 builds from WizSource but I still want to have all versions of PB (6.5 and higher) working like on my old laptop.
