The help file for PB 2017 says 1073741823.

Hi Roland;

Correct .... 32bit max / 2 (because PB is now double-byte) = 2,147,483,647 / 2 = 1,073,741,823

Regards .. .Chris

I would guess that 64bit executables have a much higher limit.

I believe there used to be a limit of 60k in 16 bit PB, but I don't think there's a limit in 32 bit+.  Obviously there are many things that are better done with blobs than strings, but to answer your question, I don't think there is a limit on the size of a string.

I just noticed you asked about string field. Did you mean to say field? The maximum length of a string variable is 1073741823.

If you create a DataWindow and select a column that is a large text column, the column size is set to 32767. You might be able to change that by editing the source.
