We have a hosted server where our application runs. Users who access the app have redirected printers. The system is noticibly slower when their default printer is a redirected printer vs when it is a local printer. This occurs even when no printing is taking place. I am guessing we are experiencing what was mentioned in the below link, although our issues are not limited to windows with tab controls of any sort. Are there any ideas or solutions instead of the hack-type work around the user in the post mentions? Note: I have tested the work around mentioned in the post and it does appear to improve performance quie a bit.

Try this...

  1. Open Server Manager.
  2. Select "Remote Desktop Services".
  3. Select the Collection where youre application has been published.
  4. On the "Properties" section, Click on the "Tasks" dropdown.
  5. Choose "Edit Properties".
  6. Expand the "Client Settings".
  7. Un-tick the checkbox for "Use the client default printing device" option.

I had a customer do this to solve slowness in a long running process when the PB app is run via RemoteApps. Now they say they are unable to print from the app. Any ideas on how to solve this differently? My guess is the slowness is caused by the DataWindow engine communicating over the network with the local printer driver to get margins and other settings when formatting pages. Can this be avoided?
