PB v12.1 b7055, and soon to be PB 2017

Oracle 12C

 

Our company is FINALLY ready to replace InstallShield.

I'm looking for suggestions for a replacement tool based on real-world experience.

FYI -

After a thorough review, and based on the fact that the person using the installer is not a programmer, I've ended up recommending "Advanced Installer" to the boss. Thanks to Zumwalt for exposing me to this tool.

This product is reasonably priced, appears to have perfect integration with the Windows platform, seems to be the easiest to learn and the easiest to use, and offers support at a very reasonable price - which tells me that the product is actually easy to use and is robust.
 

Note that if I were running the installer I'd choose NSIS with the Graphical Install Wizard product.

You can find better UI's for it as well. It's powerful, flexible and free.

How difficult is it to learn, and how does it handle real world installations?

You indicate that you can find better UIs? Which one do you use, and why?

I have used InnoSetup for many years for my tools. It is totally free and the UI add-ins Brad refers to are free as well. The base GUI is basically a text editor and the syntax is pretty much the same as an .ini file. Very easy to use. There is a scripting language which I have not used. It is based on Pascal. There is a user forum on the website that you can ask questions or suggest changes.

It should be able to handle real world installations. For the UI, I've used ISTools but I think it's not maintained anymore, not sure. Google shows others that you can try.
