Brand new Windows 10, 64 bit o/s VM I have the PB v12.0 CDs on disk I copy them to my C drive into C:\Personal\Downloads\PBv120 I want to install as an evaluation I've tried: 1) Running the "C:\Personal\Downloads\PBv120\Autorun.exe" as Administrator 2) using a cmd prompt: cd \Personal\Downloads\PBv120 autorun -i GUI 3) Running C:\Personal\Downloads\PBv120\PowerBuilder120\setup.exe as an Administrator 4) using a cmd prompt: cd \Personal\Downloads\PBv120\PowerBuilder120\ setup -i GUI In the case of #3: it detects the code was not run from AutoRun and then it closes. In all other cases, the installtion will start, but when it gets to PowerBuilder the Wizard is just an empty frame, and the system locks. Task manager show zero CPU activity at the 1, 5, and 30 minutes marks. HOW can I get PBv12.0 installed???? Thanks, Olan
Gerry.
Every time I ran the installer, it would process the Wizard up to the point where the installation of PowerBuilder would begin, then the Wizard becase a clear glass pane - no content, and the Task Manager said it was using zero CPU time.
Here's how I ended up making this work:
1) Have an unsaved WORD doc open in the desktop.
2) In the main CD, select the setup.exe, NOT the Autorun.exe
Ensure there is NO compatibility mode set on the exe, then RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR
3) Get to where the Wizard becomes glass pane and stops
Do NOT kill the setup.exe task
4) Ctl-alt-end to reboot,
CANCEL the reboot
5) Click the power button
CANCEL again
– and the setup.exe will continue
5) After the Wizard has completed installing PowerBuilder - and yes, after you have clicked FINISH, a series of dialog boxes will display in an infinite loop of “installing…, extracting…”
6) Wait for this to finish - anywhere from 5 to 10 minutes.
No, I'm not kidding. This silliness actually worked and installed PB v12.0.
I then ran the EBFs to bring my PB up to v12.1,b7055 which is where we needed to be. I had to use the same trick on every EBF.
Rebooted, and tested PB. It worked.
