We are currently running our web application on PS 2020 on Azure. We have several clients and in AEM we define the connection caches for each client. These connection caches reside in connection-cache.config file. When a server is provisioned all we have to do is copy this config file from cloud to the server and don't have to manually add them back.

We are now testing migration to PS 2021 since Azure classic cloud instance is no longer supported and only class extended is supported. I am not too familiar with PS 2021 as the entire architecture has changed and seems like moving to PS 2021 is not an easy task (at least I haven't found it easy as of yet having spent many days trying to migrate it). Is there a step by step instruction on how to migrate, how to install PS 2021 on Azure and how to add these connection caches  etc. Is there a concept of AEM in PS 2021?

Hi Vinod,

Generally speaking, PowerServer 2021 can do everything PowerServer 2020 can do and more.  And its cloud-native architecture makes it perfect for running natively in Azure, but the cloud-native architecture means certain tasks are done different.

AEM is perfect example... now the settings are directly editable in text files, which means you can automate modifying settings and readily transfer the files to another instance to replicate settings.

I recommend first starting with going through the Appeon-U training videos for PowerServer 2021:

https://www.appeon.com/appeon-u/ps

Then, depending on what topic you want to drill down and get more info, refer to applicable how-to guide or tutorial:

https://docs.appeon.com/ps2021/How-to-overview.html

https://docs.appeon.com/ps2021/tutorials.html

For example, regarding your question how to define database connections, please refer Tutorial #13:

https://docs.appeon.com/ps2021/Connecting_to_the_Database.html

Best regards,
Armeen

Hi Vinod;

  The key to starting to use PS2021 is learning the basics by setting up a local environment first and getting your PB App(s) migrated & running locally first before you even attempt an Azure deployment.  You are 100% correct though that PS2021 totally different than PS2020 as it's a complete rewrite based on a totally different technology paradigm.  FYI ... https://docs.appeon.com/ps2021

  In particular,  I would run through the how-to guide, migration guide, and tutorials etc before starting your App migrations.

Regards ... Chris
