Hi,

We are developing and testing Web application using poweserver2021. The problem that i have is that the users wants the application to run without letting the users install in their machine. its true it doesn't need a admin rights.

This app is a web portal and we are planing to install and host in windows Azure for production, so am asking is there a way when the user enter the url it's automatically install in the background without user noticing.

The portal meant to be useed by the public it's not tied to specific users. Installing by themself is a problem to them.

thank you in advance.

Hi Mattews,

Yes, it is true that PowerServer 2021 and newer doesn't require admin rights to install or run your app on user machines.  You just need to make sure you configure the Cloud App Launcher to run "without a background service".

Regarding preinstalling, the Cloud App Launcher is the only thing that must be preinstalled to run your app.  There are two ways to do this: 1) let the user do by themselves (since no admin rights required), or 2) have the IT admin deploy the .MSI version of the Cloud App Launcher to the user machines.

The way the app can be started on the users machine is configurable.  Always an app can be started by entering the URL in the Web browser or clicking a hyperlink.  But by default desktop and start menu shortcuts are also created automatically, which can be used to start the app.  If you want the user always to use URL, just configure the project not to create any shortcuts.

Best regards,
Armeen

The Cloud App Launcher can be easily installed by the user without special configurations. But the issue is it only works on Windows devices. Cannot use it on Macintosh, iOS, or Android devices.

Okay, i will see what to do with the Cloud app Launcher. You have raised another important issue, t thought when powerserver 2021 for production it's cross platform. Meaning it will run other Computer O.S a side from mobile devices.

No, the server is cross-OS, but the client app is Windows because it uses PBVM.
